Orlando has a lot of dinner shows that dole out paper hats to kids and iced tea to parents. It also has plenty of bars and nightclubs. What Orlando does not have, however, is a dinner show for adults.
Treasure Tavern, opening soon, is near
an existing family dinner show, Pirate’s Dinner Adventure. It’s owned by the same company, which is clearly tapping a new market niche with its existing theme.
According to advanced information, “Gretta, the tavern’s outlandish bar maven, escorts guests through a two- hour show.” The entertainment sounds similar to family fare – artistic acrobats, singers, dancers, and comedians – so expect saltier language and more cleavage from the wenches. (Hooters girls with head hankies.) It’s the blue-collar version of a Las Vegas show.
The “for adults only” tag will catch notice since it’s Orlando’s only one, and tourists seeking ribald entertainment in an atmosphere found only in Central Florida could be intrigued. People will expect dirty jokes, skin, and alcohol; and it should appeal to some groups attending the nearby Orlando Convention Center. If the business proves successful, expect others to follow – perhaps even Universal but assuredly not Disney.
